Louisiana CDL Bribery Scandal Shows Why Proper Training Matters

Here’s How CNS Driver Training Center Does It Differently

Recently, six people in Louisiana—including a restaurant owner, state employees, and CDL training operators—were indicted in a bribery scheme that allowed unqualified drivers to bypass federally required CDL testing and training.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, applicants paid thousands of dollars to fraudulently skip every step of the CDL qualification process:

  • Knowledge Test – Bribes allegedly paid to Office of Motor Vehicles employees to take the test for applicants.
  • Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) – CDL school operators allegedly falsified federal training records.
  • Skills Test – CDL examiners allegedly created fake passing scores without applicants ever taking the test.

Each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison for conspiracy and wire fraud, plus additional charges for bribery.

Why This Matters for the Trucking Industry

This scandal isn’t just about fraud—it’s about safety.

CDL drivers operate 80,000-pound vehicles on our nation’s highways. Allowing untrained drivers behind the wheel puts everyone at risk.

FMCSA’s ELDT rule requires new drivers to demonstrate proficiency in both classroom knowledge and behind-the-wheel training. Cutting corners not only undermines road safety but also damages trust in legitimate CDL schools.

How CNS Driver Training Center is Different

At CNS Driver Training Center, we are not a CDL farm. We are committed to producing high-quality, career-ready drivers through structured, affordable, and one-on-one training.

1. First 1-on-1 CDL Program Approved in Pennsylvania

“We are the first 1-on-1 CDL program (92-course hours) to be approved in Pennsylvania. We are also the first CDL Hot Shot program (75-course hours) to be approved in PA and possibly the first in the United States. It is all about training high-quality CDL drivers in a better, more cost-effective way,” said John Irwin, CEO of CNS Companies.

2. More Affordable Than Big CDL Schools

Traditional truck driving schools often charge nearly $10,000 per student. CNS Driver Training Center offers first-class, one-on-one CDL training at 30–70% lower costs, depending on experience and program.

3. ELDT-Certified and Flexible Training Options

  • One of the first schools to offer 40% of theory knowledge online
  • Training schedules built around students’ jobs and home life
  • One-on-one instruction with certified trainers and third-party examiners
  • Company-sponsored training programs available

4. Proven Results and 5-Star Reviews

With over 300 five-star Google reviews, our students consistently highlight our professionalism, real-world teaching, and flexible training.

“I was 100 times more confident by the end of day three… I recommend this program to anyone who needs one-on-one instruction and a flexible schedule.” – Tom D.

“Everyone I had the pleasure of dealing with at CNS, I rate 5 stars.” – David H.
